Sheffield United’s stunning defensive record has been one of the key reasons why they are currently smashing expectations and lying fifth in the Premier League table, conceding fewer goals than league leaders Liverpool, and one of the main men behind that phenomenal stat is John Egan. 

Egan, who has amassed an 81.7% pass success rate whilst making 5.7 appearances clearances per game, has been a mainstay as part of Chris Wilder’s top-flight defensive masterclass, impressing pundits such as Adrien Durham along the way.

In comparison, the Toffees are at the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to defending, having conceded exactly double the amount.

According to The Sun on Sunday via Sheffield United News, Marco Silva’s side could be seeking to resolve the issue by launching a bid for Egan, potentially in the January transfer window.

Indeed, this whisper could make a lot of sense from a Goodison Park perspective. Compared to Michael Keane – Everton’s England international defender – Egan actually makes more tackles (1.3 to 1), more interceptions (2.1 to 1.7) fewer fouls (0.8 to 0.9 per WhoScored) a game.

A most recent example of Everton’s frailty at the back is their 3-2 defeat away to Brighton, having snuck themselves in front with a late 2-1 lead, they seemingly threw away the game due to basic defensive lapses that were completely avoidable.

Sheffield United, however, demonstrated by their ability to completely shut out Everton in their 2-0 win on Merseyside, have seemed to iron out individual errors costing them crucial goals, perhaps due to the leadership offered by Egan.

That being said, if Silva’s men are interested in signing the Republic of Ireland international, they will have a hard time getting him judging by how crucial he has been to the Blades’ fairytale start – especially since he has two and a half years remaining on his current contract.

Time will tell if Everton truly are committed to swaying the centre-back, but the statistics don’t lie, and they say that Egan would be a welcome addition.

Leeds United have finally announced their third kit for this season.The Yorkshire club’s third strip is a tidy powder blue number, and it does look quite nice.However, it wouldn’t be a kit announcement if there weren’t some complaints to go alongside it.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

While it seems as if a number of fans don’t actually have a problem with this strip, the supporters have made it clear that they wanted a yellow and blue kit this season.

You can’t blame them either, some of the club’s most iconic attires have been in those colours, and it would’ve been nice for Leeds to have released a strip in that scheme to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

At least this kit launch hasn’t gone down as badly as the grey and pink away kit did in the summer as that was pretty much universally hated throughout the fanbase.

Having seen Liverpool pull eight points clear at the top of the table thanks to a dramatic injury-time victory against Leicester, the pressure was on Manchester City to respond in kind.

Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side however, the Citizens suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday afternoon, and one man who didn’t cover himself in glory, was Ilkay Gundogan.

The German made just one tackle in the entire game, and had no shots on target from central midfield. After seeing the 28-year-old’s lacklustre performance, City fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side slammed his below-pair display, and one fan insisted they would have substituted the midfielder at half-time at the Etihad.

Some Citizens fans criticised him for failing to contribute anything going forward, and remarked that he only played backwards passes in the entire match.

أكد مدرب فريق رينجرز ستيفن جيرارد، أنه صُدم لأن ترينت ألكسندر أرنولد قد تم استبعاده من تشكيلة منتخب إنجلترا، من قِبل المدرب جاريث ساوثجيت.

ولم يتواجد أرنولد ضمن المنتخب الإنجليزي لمواجهة كل من سان مارينو وألبانيا وبولندا، في التصفيات المؤهلة لبطولة كأس العالم في قطر 2022.

ورغم أن جاريث ساوثجيت جادل بأن الباب لم يُغلق بشأن ما إذا كان سيشارك في يورو 2020، فقد صُدم اللاعب البالغ من العمر 21 عامًا من استبعاده.

وعمل جيرارد، الذي خاض 114 مباراة دولية خلال مسيرة إنجلترا التي استمرت 14 عامًا، مع ألكسندر أرنولد عندما كان يدرب في أكاديمية ليفربول، وكان لاعبًا يتمتع بإمكانية أن يصبح أساسيًا لبلاده.

وقال جيرارد في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “ديلي ميل” الإنجليزية: “هناك شيء واحد مؤكد، سأكون موجودًا دائمًا من أجل أرنولد، وغني عن القول في أي لحظة من اليوم، لن أتخذ الخطوة الأولى، إنه يعرف مكانه”.

وأضاف: “أنا لا أتفق بالضرورة مع هذا القرار، لكنني لست مدرب منتخب إنجلترا، أعتقد أن ترينت هو أفضل ظهير إنجليزي، وهناك شيء واحد تعلمته من كوني لاعب هو أنه لا يمكنك دائمًا أن تكون 10 من 10”.

وواصل: “عندما تكون بعيدًا عن مستواك، فأنت بحاجة إلى هذا الدعم والحب والاهتمام من مدربك أكثر من أي شخص آخر، لذا فوجئت بالقرار، ولكن هذا رأيي، ورأيي غير مهم في ذلك”.

وتابع: “أرنولد ظهير أيمن من الطراز العالمي، إنه أفضل لاعب في مركزه في البلاد، بالمناسبة لدينا لاعبين رائعون آخرون في المركز نفسه، لكن فيما يتعلق بهذا الأمر، فأنا موجود من أجل أرنولد، وأي من لاعبي ليفربول الآخرين في أي لحظة من اليوم”.

افتتح مجلس إدارة الأهلي برئاسة محمود الخطيب، فرع النادي الجديد بالأقصر، في احتفالية كبرى حضرها الدكتور أشرف صبحي وزير الشباب والرياضة، والمستشار مصطفى ألهم محافظ الأقصر، وأعضاء مجلس الأهلي، وشخصيات عامة وقيادات أمنية وتنفيذية.

ووفقًا للموقع الرسمي، فإن حفل افتتاح الأهلي الأقصر بدأ بالنشيد الوطني وأعقبه نشيد النادي، وبعد ذلك تم عرض فيلم قصير عن تاريخ الأهلي وإنجازاته، كما تخلل الحفل كلمة لمحمود الخطيب وكلمة للدكتور أشرف صبحي، إلى جانب عروض فنية مميزة.

‏‎وشهدت الساعات الماضية ترتيبات عديدة ومكثفة قبل افتتاح الأهلي الأقصر، وذلك بعد الانتهاء من كافة التجهيزات الخاصة بالنادي من الملاعب والأماكن الترفيهية والاجتماعية المتكاملة بالشكل الذي يليق بالأعضاء، وذلك من خلال منظومة خدمات رياضية واجتماعية متكاملة، تتناسب مع مكانة الأهلي وتاريخه الذي تجاوز 114 عامًا، بجانب خبرات شركة استادات الوطنية المصرية صاحبة الشراكة الاقتصادية مع نادي القرن، التي نتج عنها الأهلي الأقصر؛ ليظهر بهذا الشكل المتميز بعد نجاح مشروع الوحدة الاقتصادية بين الطرفين، الذي بدأ من خلال استاد الأهلي we السلام، وأيضًا تطوير قناة النادي وباقي المشروعات داخل الوحدة الاقتصادية.

‏‎ويعتبر الأهلي الأقصر أكبر نادٍ رياضي بالمحافظة، حيث تبلغ مساحته 13 فدانًا، ويشمل ملعبًا قانونيًّا لكرة القدم، مجهزًا بمدرجات تتسع لـ5 آلاف متفرج، وملاعب متنوعة للألعاب الجماعية والفردية، وحمام سباحة أولمبي وصالة مغطاة بمساحة 1.56 فدان.

ويضم الأهلي الأقصر مبنى اجتماعي يشمل العديد من الخدمات، بخلاف المسجد والجيم، وملعب الخماسي، كما يتضمن العديد من الملاعب المجهزة لخدمة أكاديميات كرة القدم والسلة والطائرة واليد، وملاعب التنس الأرضي، وتنس الطاولة وألعاب القوى، وحمامات السباحة وكرة الماء.

من جانبه، أعرب وزير الشباب والرياضة عن اعتزازه بالمشاركة فى افتتاح فرع الأهلي بمدينة طيبة الجديدة بالأقصر، كأحد أكبر المشروعات الرياضية الخدمية المُقدمة لأهالي المدينة، مقدمًا الشكر والتقدير لكل من جعل هذا الصرح الرياضي العملاق واقعًا.

وقال الوزير إن مدينة طيبة الجديدة بمحافظة الأقصر تدل بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك على حرص الدولة المصرية بقيادة الرئيس السيسي على الاهتمام بتنمية صعيد مصر فى شتى المجالات، فضلاً عن تنفيذ كبرى المشروعات القومية بمحافظات الصعيد، في صورة تؤكد أن أبناء الصعيد فى القلب، وأن كل ما يُثار من أقاويل حول غياب اهتمام الدولة بالصعيد لا يخرج عن كونها إدعاءات واهية لا تمت للواقع.

وأضاف: “نجتمع اليوم فى حفل افتتاح فرع الأهلى بمدينة طيبة، والذي يعد بمثابة فرصة عظيمة للمواهب الشابة بمحافظات الصعيد بصفة عامة ومحافظة الأقصر بصفة خاصة، من خلال ما يتضمنه الفرع الجديد من إنشاءات رياضية متنوعة من ملاعب للكرة وملاعب متعددة الأغراض وحمامات سباحة وصالة مغطاة وصالات أنشطة وقاعات اجتماعية”.

وأوضح صبحي أن افتتاح فرع الأهلي يأتي بالتزامن مع مجموعة من المناسبات التي تشهدها مصر خلال الآونة الراهنة، والتى كان من بينها أول أمس احتفالية يوم الشهيد لعام 2021.

وأكد وزير الرياضة دعم الحكومة المصرية للاستثمار الرياضي، من أجل أن يصبح من ضمن الدعائم الأساسية للاقتصاد، لافتًا إلى سعى الوزارة إلى تعظيم الاستثمار الرياضي من خلال مشروعات الطرح الاستثماري لمراكز الشباب والأندية الرياضية بنظام حق الانتفاع بمشاركة القطاع الخاص وفق مجموعة من الإجراءات والضوابط العاملة فى هذا الشأن.

وأوضح الدكتور أشرف صبحي أنه منذ أن تم البدء في مشروع الطرح الاستثماري في آواخر عام 2018 وحتى الآن، وصل حجم الاستثمار فى 219 مركز شباب على مستوى الجمهورية إلى مليار و400 مليون جنيه، فيما وصل حجم الاستثمار فى 34 ناديًا في 14 محافظة نحو 3 مليارات و410 ملايين جنيه.

وفى ختام كلمته، تقدم وزير الشباب والرياضة بخالص التقدير والعرفان لمجلس إدارة النادي الأهلي ومسئولى شركة استادات ومسئولى جهاز مدينة طيبة بمحافظة الأقصر على الجهود التى تم بذلها ليخرج فرع النادى الأهلى بالصعيد من قلب مدينة طيبة إلى النور من أجل خدمة أبناء طيبة الأعزاء، معرباً عن تمنياته باللقاء فى افتتاح مزيد من المشروعات الرياضية التنموية خلال الفترة المقبلة.

Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny is adjusting to life at Schalke and refused to rule out a permanent move to the German club.

What’s the latest?

The 22-year-old has featured in every match under David Wagner so far and settled well despite conceding a penalty on his debut against Bayern Munich.

Despite his inexperience when it comes to playing regularly, let alone in a different country, Kenny has performed well so far. That was evidenced by a superb goal in a game against Hertha Berlin, which prompted questions regarding where his future lies.

The right-back is currently concentrating on his football, and on getting Schalke back where they belong, which he believes is in European competition.

On the subject of his future, he told Bundesliga.com that the club has already made him feel at home, but refuses to commit his future anywhere as it is ‘too early for that decision’, but did insist that he is ‘giving everything for Schalke’.

If he continues his current level of consistency a permanent move could be on the cards, but as a Liverpudlian he will also have an eye on impressing in order to work his way back into first-team plans at Everton.

Making the most of his opportunity

Not many young English players have made a move abroad but those who did have often found it to be a positive in their career development.

Jadon Sancho’s form at Borussia Dortmund has seen him win England caps whilst Reiss Nelson has found himself more involved with the Arsenal first-team after a loan spell at Hoffenheim last year.

So far Kenny is proving himself to be a capable Bundesliga performer and such an experience is likely to serve him well on his return.

He will know what it takes to play to a high standard on a regular basis, in a competitive team aiming for the upper echelons of the division, and with that understanding he should become a more reliable option in the eyes of Marco Silva.

Arsenal’s pre-season is slowly coming to an end.

It’s been a pretty rocky trip with both ups and downs, but there are now not many challenges left for them to face before the new 2019/20 Premier League season kicks off.

And for the Gunners, 11 August is the day the get straight back into the grind against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The last bout, however, ended with a defeat for Unai Emery’s troops. Arsenal hosted Olympique Lyon in the Emirates Cup in London and were beaten 2-1.

Still, these matches are very much just about getting the players’ fitness and sharpness to the required level so the result was very much secondary.

Reiss Nelson, Arsenal’s young talent, pretty much attested to that with his new Instagram snap emphasising how good it was to be back on the pitch at home.

It didn’t take long for some other youngsters to reply to his photo.

Angel Gomes and Mason Mount were among the first ones to the scene and they sent their regards to the 19-year-old Gunner.

Arsenal’s next challenge will take them to the Stade Raymond Kopa where they will face Angers on Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Troy Parrott could be a part of his first-team squad next season, per the London Evening Standard.

What’s he said?

Parrott made his debut for the club in the pre-season friendly against Juventus on Sunday, playing 45 minutes in a game that Spurs won 3-2.

A 17-year-old striker, he has been prolific for the club’s Under-18 team, scoring 15 goals in 13 games.

Parrott has also won caps for the Republic of Ireland at youth level and Pochettino says that he could be utilised as back-up to Harry Kane in the 2019/20 campaign after both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen left the club.

He said: “Today, yes [he could be included in the squad], tomorrow, I don’t know.

“He’s still so young but we’ll see what happens at the end of the transfer window. If we have the squad that we have today, of course he’s going to have the possibility to be with the first team.”

Kane all over again?

We’ve seen this before.

It seems too early to make any predictions about the Irishman but fans will surely cast their minds back to the debut of Harry Kane.

He came into the team at a time when Roberto Soldado was struggling and Emmanuel Adebayor was sulking and became an instant hit.

He has become a genuinely prolific forward during his time in north London and is perhaps one of the best in the world – he has scored 164 goals for the club.

Parrott now finds himself in a similar situation following the departures of Llorente and Janssen. Yes, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura can operate as central strikers if necessary, but the youngster is now technically Spurs’ second-best centre-forward specialist.

Parrott has huge boots to fill if he fancies following in the England captain’s footsteps, but Pochettino’s faith in youth will be exciting for supporters.

It was not the Argentine who handed Kane his debut but he has seen the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Juan Foyth thrive under his management.

Kane walked through the open door and made the striker position his own and the circumstances are now there for Parrott to do the same.

With both Janssen and Llorente gone, the club have just one senior striker; Parrott could become the deputy the squad so desperately needs.
