Leeds United fans yearn for yellow and blue kit after club announcement

Leeds United have finally announced their third kit for this season. The Yorkshire club’s third strip is a tidy powder blue number, and it does look quite nice. However, it wouldn’t be a kit announcement if there weren’t some complaints to go alongside it.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

While it seems as if a number of fans don’t actually have a problem with this strip, the supporters have made it clear that they wanted a yellow and blue kit this season.

You can’t blame them either, some of the club’s most iconic attires have been in those colours, and it would’ve been nice for Leeds to have released a strip in that scheme to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

At least this kit launch hasn’t gone down as badly as the grey and pink away kit did in the summer as that was pretty much universally hated throughout the fanbase.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Manchester United will "take years" to get Old Trafford aura back, says Martin Keown

[ad_pod ]Old Trafford isn’t the place it used to be, we get it.It doesn’t take a genius pundit to work out that the Theatre of Dreams, a place where Manchester United have scored just four goals in their last four games and has seen Crystal Palace and Rochdale come away with their heads held high, isn’t the stronghold it used to be.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

We hear about it every week, don’t we? When the quota goes out in the morning and “experts†are asked to make some sort of statement about United then the easiest option is to go for the declining fear factor around the colosseum that once was.ÂThat’s why Mr Martin Keown has been afforded time on talkSPORT – because he can give that very verdict.

The ex-Arsenal defender revealed the blisteringly obvious today…

Surely there’s more to be said about Solskjaer’s increasingly conservative tactics, the boardroom, the over-commercialisation of the club that has taken priority over football, the investors (one of whom needed elaboration on what a loan is), and the oh-so-revolting owners?

Man City fans slam Ilkay Gundogan after defeat to Wolves

Having seen Liverpool pull eight points clear at the top of the table thanks to a dramatic injury-time victory against Leicester, the pressure was on Manchester City to respond in kind.

Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side however, the Citizens suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday afternoon, and one man who didn’t cover himself in glory, was Ilkay Gundogan.

The German made just one tackle in the entire game, and had no shots on target from central midfield. After seeing the 28-year-old’s lacklustre performance, City fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side slammed his below-pair display, and one fan insisted they would have substituted the midfielder at half-time at the Etihad.

Some Citizens fans criticised him for failing to contribute anything going forward, and remarked that he only played backwards passes in the entire match.

Southampton fans praise Radhi Jaidi on 10th anniversary of his Saints debut

[ad_pod ]

Some Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Radhi Jaidi after he posted a tweet commemorating the 10th anniversary of his debut for the club.

Jaidi, who still works at St Mary’s as head coach of the Under-23 side, made 66 appearances for the Saints from 2009-2012.

He was a formidable centre-back and despite spending just three years on the South Coast, the 44-year-old appeared to make a real impression on some supporters, who continue to hold him in high regard – judging by their reactions to his post on Twitter.

One fan said that he’s “glad” Jaidi is still with the club and that he is a “top man”.

Another supporter called the 105-cap former Tunisia international a “role model” – it’s safe to say he made a name for himself in his three years at St Mary’s.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction below…

Man Utd fans react to interest in Bournemouth hotshot Callum Wilson

[ad_pod ]

Having sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter earlier this summer, Manchester United took the bold decision to head into the current campaign with just three front-line strikers: Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Martial’s injury in recent weeks has already weakened the Red Devils’ incredibly light options up front, and it remains to be seen whether the trio can fire United to success all by themselves.

As such, ESPN’s report on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future transfer plans certainly makes a lot of sense. It claims Jadon Sancho and James Maddison are two of the club’s leading targets for next summer, but Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson is also on the Norwegian boss’ shortlist.

After hearing of their reported interest in the England international, United fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the centre-forward.

Many supporters of the Manchester side thought the 27-year-old would add a lot to United’s forward department, and insisted the 15-goal marksman is a “proper striker”.

Some fans insisted they would take Wilson “every day of the week”, and suggested that if his price is reasonable, they would be more than happy to see him arrive at Old Trafford.

Tottenham fans praise David Ginola – and some want him back

[ad_pod ]

David Ginola could play a little bit.

The midfielder’s first taste of English football came with Newcastle United between 1995 and 1997, before he made the switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Ginola played 100 league games for Spurs during his three seasons at the club and it would be fair to say that the supporters enjoyed watching him.

The Frenchman was an extremely talented technician, but also brought personality to the teams that he represented.

Ginola turned 52 on Friday and Tottenham’s official Twitter account was on hand with a special birthday message for the former France international.

As expected, that led to a number of the Spurs supporters lavishing praise on their former hero, with many claiming that they wish they had him now.

Indeed, Tottenham are currently struggling with injuries and Ginola could probably still do a job in the Dele Alli position until the Englishman returns in March (BBC Sport).

Ginola, who also turned out for Aston Villa and Everton, perhaps would not have the pace or fitness – and that is being kind – to compete at this level in his 50s, but his use of the ball would still be very special indeed.

TalkSPORT hosts debate Michael Owen’s recent Newcastle comments

[ad_pod ]Poor old Newcastle United. If you didn’t already know, Michael Owen has a new book coming out called ‘Reboot’.Supposedly detailing all the bits and bobs he couldn’t release in his first biography or couldn’t reveal in person, the latest edition of his life on paper had a few choice words for his former employers Newcastle. The fallout from this was then broadcasted over the internet when Magpies legend Alan Shearer took offence and reacted on Twitter – because that’s what grown adults do nowadays.Watch Newcastle United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Understandably, Owen’s comments have opened up lines of debate amongst commentators. Does he have the right to say these things, for example, and is it acceptable that he has? Does he have a responsibility to be respectful to those who so feverously followed him, and helped pay his wages, or is he well within his right to openly scrutinise them?

Well, if you’re struggling to answer those questions yourself, talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy are here to offer a helping hand…

Advantage Cundy for us. Owen should have the freedom to write whatever he wants in his book – heck it might even make him seem more interesting, and footballers most certainly have the right not to be happy at a club.

However, to essentially stick your fingers up at fans, as Owen has done, is pretty poor taste. Finger wagging time.

Newcastle eyeing the "new Vidic"

Newcastle United are reportedly the latest club to join the race to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his defensive options this window.

What’s the story?

According to The Sun, Newcastle are interested in signing the Serbian centre-back this month, however, it has been reported that PIF would have to pay £37.5m to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

Howe’s side are currently the Premier League’s second-worst defenders behind Norwich City, having conceded 42 goals in 19 games. Moreover, the Magpies are sat in 19th place and fears of relegation are still very real.

In order to solve this major weakness, it has been reported that the Englishman wants to add two centre-backs to his ranks this window, with Milenkovic the latest defender to be linked with a move to the North-East.

The Serbian is certainly a hot prospect, having received plenty of praise from an array of suitors, most notably being labelled the “new Vidic” by former Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Moreover, former teammate Pol Lirola, now of Olympique Marseille, stated that Milenkovic “has an extraordinary quality” and is “already ready for a great team.”

The Toon Army have already added to their defence with the acquisition of right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid as well as signing striker Chris Wood from Burnley.

Newcastle must sign Milenkovic

It is no secret that Howe’s defence will need serious improvement this window if the Tyneside club are to significantly boost their survival bid; the 24-year-old could prove to be the perfect option.

Stood at a towering 6’5”, the Serbian is a colossus at the back and would provide a major aerial presence. Moreover, he’s five centimetres taller than Newcastle’s current tallest centre-back in Federico Fernandez.

Milenkovic has missed just three Serie A matches this campaign, keeping three clean sheets in 17 starts as well as scoring one goal.

The 24-year-old is currently averaging 71.7 touches per game as well as boasting an impressive 90% passing accuracy.

From a defensive point of view, the centre-back is making 1.2 interceptions per game, 1.9 tackles, 3 clearances and is also dribbled past once every ten games.

According to SofaScore, Jamaal Lascelles in Newcastle’s current best-performing centre-back with an average score of 6.73/10 per game. However, compared to Milenkovic’s stats, it is clear why Newcastle are interested.

The Englishman is averaging just 40.2 touches per game, whilst making 0.8 interceptions, 0.4 tackles and having a 79% passing accuracy.

However, the 28-year-old is making more clearances per game (5.5) and is dribbled past as frequently as Milenkovic.

The 24-year-old would significantly improve Newcastle United and, should he sign, it would prove a major statement of intent from the North-East club.

Spurs open Diego Carlos talks

According to Football Insider, a new target for Tottenham Hotspur has emerged in the last week of the transfer window as they now set their sights on Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

The Lowdown: Tottenham eye centre-half…

As reported by reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold, Spurs have a central defender on their agenda as manager Antonio Conte sets out four priority positions to strengthen in his squad.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Alongside a new defender, it is believed that Spurs are after a right-wing-back, midfielder and striker as they seek to back Conte (football.london) – with transfer chief Fabio Paratici apparently set for a busy final week.

Tottenham are in talks to offload Tanguy Ndombele with sights set on his replacement in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat (Fabrizio Romano), with FI now sharing news on a new name being targeted.

The Latest: Spurs open Carlos talks…

According to FI, Tottenham have ‘opened preliminary talks’ to sign the Brazil international and are interested in a swap deal to bring down his £50 million asking price.

It is believed that the Lilywhites could allow midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to go the other way to ‘sweeten the deal’.

Spurs have ‘turned their attention’ to the colossal defender as they enter the market for a centre-half in this final week transfer push.

The Verdict: Unlikely?

Depending on whether the La Liga side are open to a swap deal, it will be interesting to see how this develops, but our thoughts are this move will be rather unlikely.

Newcastle submitted a series of £30 million bids for the South American star, all of which were knocked back, perhaps highlighting just how challenging it will be to negotiate a last minute deal with Sevilla.

Given their current attempts to sign Wolves star Traore, Amrabat and FC Porto forward Luis Diaz, signing a new defender may have to wait until the summer window.

Celtic: Ange Postecoglou not expecting anyone back for St Johnstone

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has told Sky Sports that it is ‘unlikely’ he’ll have any of his injured players back against St Johnstone.

The Lowdown: St Mirren struggle

The Hoops failed to back up their Hampden Park triumph in the Scottish Premiership after being held to a surprise 0-0 draw with St Mirren.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-20/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Postecoglou was without Joe Hart, David Turnbull and hero Kyogo Furuhashi from the League Cup final, while Carl Starfelt was suspended.

Celtic failed to make a breakthrough despite having 31 shots and 83% possession, with St Mirren missing 11 players due to Covid-19. That result leaves the Hoops six points behind rivals Rangers, with one final game before the winter break.

The Latest: Sky Sports post

Sky Sports shared an interview with Postecoglou on Twitter ahead of the trip to St Johnstone, which is available to view here.

The Hoops manager was asked if there were any further updates on those who missed St Mirren and if they would be available for Boxing Day, to which he said:

“Unlikely with the short turnaround. We might get one or two but at this stage I think it’ll be a similar sort of team that went out last night.”

The Verdict: Worrying…

Celtic struggled without top scorer Furuhashi and the creative Turnbull, and it appears as if they could be without them once more in what is a crucial game prior to the winter break.

They won’t want Rangers’ lead to stretch any further ahead of their meeting on February 2, meaning they’ll need to find a way to score despite being without a number of attacking players.

Liel Abada was used in a central position against St Mirren but didn’t have a single shot on goal, so perhaps Postecoglou will tinker with his setup.

He could use attacking midfielder Tom Rogic in a false nine role, as he did recently against Motherwell with Turnbull, which would then allow Abada to return to a natural wide role. Postecoglou doesn’t have many options, though, with Celtic desperate to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
