According to Football Insider, Everton forward Fraser Hornby could be heading for a loan spell at Belgium club KV Kortrijk.

Hornby joined Everton from Northampton Town in September 2014.

The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for the Toffees in a Europa League clash in December 2017 but has not featured since.

Both of the teenager’s appearances this season have come for Everton’s Under-23 side in the Premier League 2.

Manchester United should be worried about David De Gea’s form, says Danny Murphy

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has claimed Manchester United have a “worrying” issue with David De Gea’s poor form.

What did he say?

De Gea endured a difficult campaign last season at both club and international level, and saw four errors lead to goals in the Premier League.

After conceding a rather soft winner to Crystal Palace in injury-time on Saturday, Murphy has revealed the Spain international’s poor form is a “worrying” sign for the Red Devils.

He said: “A worrying thing for United is David De Gea. He should have saved the winner, comfortably. It’s another mistake and it’s happening too often.

“It doesn’t matter how good he can be, we know how good he can be, but there’s something not right. It’s a problem for Man United.”

Decline?

At 28, De Gea is arguably approaching the peak years in the career of a goalkeeper. But his performances over the course of the past twelve months have indicated a worrying slip in standards. The Spaniard is making basic errors that are simply compounding the side’s miseries at the moment.

Reports in recent weeks and months have suggested the goalkeeper could be set for a bumper new deal at Old Trafford, and cynics could rightly suggest he has maybe taken his eye off the ball. Have all the years of transfer speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid finally taken their toll on him mentally?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had the opportunity to give De Gea genuine competition between the sticks this season with the returning Dean Henderson. Instead, the impressive England U21 international was loaned out to Sheffield United again.

Whilst a season in top-flight football is no doubt a great learning experience for Henderson, keeping him at Old Trafford to compete with De Gea may have benefited the latter. Now, the shot-stopper simply knows however many mistakes he makes, he will remain United’s number one.

Murphy has certainly got a point, and Solskjaer’s Henderson decision may well have made the goalkeeping situation at the club worse, not better.

Tottenham winger Lucas Moura believes Arsenal game has come at ideal time

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Lucas Moura believes the north London derby has come at a perfect time for Tottenham Hotspur, per the London Evening Standard.

What’s he said?

Spurs take on Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday, fresh from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend.

The Gunners also lost at the weekend, going down 3-1 to Liverpool at Anfield, and Lucas insists that he and his team-mates will get back to winning ways against their bitter rivals.

He said:  “Is this the perfect game for us to have after the Newcastle defeat? Yes. We need to look forward now. There are a lot of hard games to come.

“We lost against Newcastle but I am sure we have the quality to go to Arsenal and come back with three points. That’s what we must try to do.

“Each game is different. This is a new season and we have new players. I think we are stronger now (than in previous years). I am sure we can go anywhere and win games.

“For sure it was a very bad result against Newcastle. We tried but it was very difficult to play against them, especially as they kept everyone behind the ball after they scored.

“It was difficult to find the space in the air and the ground because everyone was in the box. I missed a very clear opportunity and I am upset about this. We need to get back to work this week and win the next game against Arsenal.”

Derby atmosphere

Form goes out of the window in a derby game, or so the saying goes.

That is good news for both Spurs and Arsenal after their execrable performances at the weekend.

With the season still in its infancy, it is difficult to draw too many conclusions but Lucas is right that Spurs cannot afford to lose two games on the bounce.

They have not won at the Emirates since 2010, but they will surely be champing at the bit to set things right.

The derby may well have come at the perfect time.

PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month – Teemu Pukki wins Premier League award for August

Norwich City star Teemu Pukki has been voted the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month for August.

In a vote run by fan engagement experts Snack Media, the Canaries striker won with a clear majority of the vote, 54%, beating Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, who finished in second place with 18%, as well as Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Burnley’s Ashley Barnes.

In the first of five divisional votes carried out over nine days via Snack’s digital and social networks and supported by top flight football clubs and the press, the Finn’s fantastic start to the season which saw him bag five goals in three games – including a hat-trick against Newcastle – earned him the Premier League award for August.

The full list of contenders from the final shortlist polled as follows:

– Teemu Pukki, 54%

– Tyrone Mings, 18%

– Mason Mount, 12%

– Ashley Barnes, 6%

– Kevin De Bruyne, 6%

– Raheem Sterling, 5%

Man United’s Marcus Rashford could follow Raheem Sterling’s footsteps, say pundits

[ad_pod ]How does one describe Marcus Rashford? The Manchester United forward is gifted; more goals than Old Trafford favourite Cristiano Ronaldo at the same age would attest to that.ÂHowever, it just feels like something is missing from his game – a certain consistency that’s absolutely necessary for good players to make the transition into great players.ÂFor example, RashfordÂscoredÂtwo goals and added one assist in the opening two games of the current season. Since then, he’s failed to find the back of the net in two appearances and somehow looked bereft of confidence despite starting the campaign so brightly.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

His record from the last term isn’t particularly inspirational either. Indeed, after an impressive flurry of six goals in eight Premier League outings, he went on a baron spree of just two goals in 14 games as United’s bid for Champions League football collapsed.

But this isn’t to say that he hasn’t got the ability to overcome the obstacles that stand in his way.

TalkSPORT’s Darren Gough has discussed what the future holds for Rashford and how he compares to international teammate Raheem Sterling…

Man Utd loanee Alexis Sanchez delivers verdict on time at Old Trafford

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to ESPN, Alexis Sanchez has opened up on his failed time at Manchester United.

What did he say?

The Chile international arrived from Arsenal in January 2018 after some truly stellar seasons at the Emirates. The 30-year-old was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2014/2015 campaign, and had been voted as the Gunners’ Player of the Season on two separate occasions.

However, his time at Old Trafford was an abject failure, and the forward eventually joined Serie A giants Inter on a season-long loan earlier this summer.

Now, Sanchez has admitted the time wasn’t right for both him and Romelu Lukaku to be at United, and further opened up on why he thinks things went so wrong.

He said: “Lukaku and I trained very well. But we needed to play more in games to get to our best. It wasn’t the right time for us to be at Manchester. Too many changes. When you change that much, it’s tough.”

Upheaval

“Too many changes”. For a man who was only at the club for about 18 months, those three words from Sanchez deliver a withering assessment of how things have gone wrong at United. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure back in 2013, the Red Devils have chopped and changed, both in terms of the playing personnel and the managerial staff.

Undergoing such significant upheaval in very little time throws everything into chaos, and it is difficult to establish a sense of continuity or familiarity. The last year or so paint such a brilliantly symbolic picture of United’s struggles over the past half a decade. Jose Mourinho favoured physical beasts on the pitch, and wanted a rigid playing style, designed to grind out wins. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wants more nimble, quick players, with a high-tempo approach. Chalk and cheese really.

Whilst Sanchez certainly didn’t pull up any trees at Old Trafford, his verdict encapsulates why United have struggled in recent seasons. If the Red Devils’ hierarchy truly feel Solskjaer is the man, then they simply must stick with him and his play-style. Somewhere along the line, the club need patience. “Too many changes” will continue to do more harm than good.

Rangers’ Dapo Mebude could make step up to first-team level

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…

Dapo Mebude made his Rangers debut on the last day of the season against Kilmarnock in the 2-1 defeat, coming on for Daniel Candeais.

Now that the 18-year-old has tasted first-team football, what can fans expect in the future?

Well, if manager Steven Gerrard turns out to be right, supporters could be in for a treat.

Per Rangers TV via insidefutbol, he said: “I think he deserves that with his play for the 18s, the 19s, the reserves and what he’s shown in first-team training.

“Dapo’s got a bright future. He needs to keep working hard now and pushing and hopefully, that can be the first of many.”

Fellow academy graduate Ross McCrorie also believes that Mebude is the “one to watch” when asked by The Daily Record who he thinks will be next to make the step up.

He said: “Dapo Mebude is one to watch. He’s done well for the Scotland Under-17s, is very quick and has a few tricks. Dapo has a real chance if he keeps working hard.”

Mebude signed a new contract with the Ibrox club in December of 2018, committing his future to the club until 2021.

Their Head of Academy, Craig Mulholland, announced via the official Rangers website: “We are delighted to extend Dapo’s contract. He has made great progress in the last few years having been named in a first-team squad and playing up a year at international level”.

Mebude is a regular in the Scotland U19s with three goals in eight games and will be looking to make the step up over the next couple of seasons.

As Mebude himself said in a recent interview with The Evening Times, he is well aware of the quality of the players in front of him. Indeed, Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos are both ahead of him in Gerrard’s pecking order.

He said: “They are two top-class strikers and Jermain has done everything I would want to do.

“He has scored goals and played in the Premier League and done it all. Alfredo is showing what he can do and they are both class strikers that I can learn from.”

A loan move in January could be the best option in the immediate future to see how he copes with the physicality of senior football on a regular basis.

He has already played in the Challenge Cup, scoring in a 2-1 win over Berwick Rangers, but it remains to be seen if he can hit the back of the net on a consistent basis for the first-team.

Manchester United will need to spend £1bn to challenge, claims Paul Merson

[ad_pod ]Is it even worth talking about United winning the title again with their current rabble? As promising as it may have initially appeared after the win over Chelsea, the summer transfer window was like trying to apply a plaster to a gunshot wound.Indeed, it’s now become abundantly clear that, with the likes of Jesse Lingard, whose last recorded contribution came in January, Marcus Rashford, with his one goal in open play this season, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay, who has looked good at times but would never get into either Liverpool or Manchester City’s squad, United are resigned to misery for the time being.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

But hey, at least Juan Mata will be writing his blog posts for the foreseeable future, with Phil Jones by his side praying one day he’ll include a colouring section for him to complete.

Now, time for a poorly phrased maths GCSE question. United have to hold out for approximately 144,000 minutes until the next transfer window. How much will they need to spend to come close to challenging the current champions?

Liverpool fans savage Mohamed Salah after firing a blank against Sheffield United

[ad_pod ]After being a joint-winner of the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah has enjoyed a relatively decent start to the current campaign as well.Four goals and three assists in seven league games is certainly good value by most people’s standards. However, the Egyptian has drawn a blank in his last three outings for the club – against Chelsea, Napoli and Sheffield United. His display against the latter on Saturday afternoon certainly didn’t pull up any trees, and his 6.7 rating on Sofascore was the third-worst of any Liverpool player. He had four unsuccessful shot attempts, completed just 69% of his passes, and only had three more touches (43) than his goalkeeper. After seeing the 27-year-old’s rather insipid performance, Liverpool fans flooded to Twitter to voice their frustrations over the forward. Many supporters of the Merseyside club revealed Salah’s poor showing at Bramall Lane is nothing too dissimilar to his performances over the course of the season so far. Some Reds fans even called for Jurgen Klopp to drop the Egypt international in light of his questionable form.Check out some of the reaction of Liverpool fans below:

Real Madrid’s October might be determined by Toni Kroos’ form and El Clasico

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Monthly Review series, which analyses what managers can learn from the previous month and what the coming month could have in store.

September has been a mixed month for Los Blancos and their coach, Zinedine Zidane.

But with October already in full throttle, Real Madrid won’t have much time to ponder on what might have been.

And just by looking at their squad and their schedule, the whole month might be decided by two key things.

Toni Kroos will be key

After a slow start, the Galacticos have finally found the higher gear they’ve been searching for since the beginning of the campaign.

They currently sit top of the table and are definitely enjoying the view. But despite many hiccups along the way for the Whites, one star has been dominant in most of his recent displays.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Their German midfield general, Toni Kroos, had to take on a much bigger role in the team with the absence of Luka Modric and it’s safe to say he did it with flying colours.

The 29-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in the seven games he played so far in La Liga and has managed 2.3 shots per game on average.

But his contribution doesn’t stop there either. Kroos has already deployed 3.3 key passes per game and has accumulated 92.9% passing accuracy in general. When we add 1.9 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game to that equation, we get a pretty impressive picture of his all-round game.

However, this is only the beginning of the campaign and Kroos’ form will definitely affect Real Madrid going forward. He seems to be really driving the team at the moment, so his contributions will be vital over the next month.

El Clasico

One of the biggest challenges Real Madrid will face in October, if not the biggest challenge, will definitely be the trip to the Camp Nou on 26 October.

And it’s going to be a real treat for all the fans around the world.

But the outcome of that single game, and we can probably say this without exaggeration, might determine both teams’ whole month by itself.

El Clasico is the biggest derby in Spain but also one of the biggest footballing derbies on the planet.

Both Zidane and Ernesto Valverde are most likely already keeping one eye on that specific date, and rightfully so.

Let’s wait and see how they do.
