Reactionary: Man United fans jumped to conclusions after Ole beat Poch in January

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans on Twitter have been made to look foolish after they were banging the drum for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be appointed instead of Mauricio Pochettino, having watched their side beat Spurs 1-0 at Wembley back in January.

Despite winning, Solskjaer had David de Gea to thank as Pochettino’s side battered United in terms of possession and shots, having over 60% of the ball as well as 21 attempts on goal, compared to the Red Devils’ 13.

Will OGS still be in charge of Man Utd come next May? The Flying Pig discusses in the video below…

Solskjaer has managed Molde and Cardiff, and is nowhere near qualified enough for the United job. Contrastingly, Pochettino is one of the world’s best coaches and drastically improves players wherever he goes – he has just led Spurs to the Champions League final against all odds, having not made a signing for two windows and with an injury-ravaged squad.

So, when Solskjaer got the better of the Argentine in January, many United supporters took to Twitter to say that the Norwegian would be a better fit for the club than the Spurs boss; that is simply a ridiculous take, as the two managers cannot be compared in terms of quality.

Let’s take a look at some of the most reactionary, and downright foolish, tweets from the United fans in light of the 1-0 victory…

Diogo Jota can become even better if Salomon Rondon signs for Wolves

[ad_pod ]

According to The Daily Mail, Wolves have opened talks with West Brom to sign Salomon Rondon this summer.

What’s the word?

Rondon had a brilliant season whilst on loan at Newcastle, developing into one of the most physically dangerous forwards in the Premier League. In total, he notched 11 goals, the highest number he’s managed to reach since arriving in England from Zenit.

However, after his successful loan spell, he’ll now go back to his parent club West Brom. It’s not looking as though he’ll stick around for long, though, as the Venezuelan has a £16.5m release clause in his contract, per The Daily Mail.

And the same report claims that Wolves have now opened talks with their Midlands rivals to sign the player. This comes after the Baggies failed to achieve promotion. But things may not be straightforward with Newcastle also having a desire to keep him in the North East.

Perfect for Jota

At first glance, it may look like a bad decision to bring Rondon to Molineux. After all, he’s another player, like Raul Jimenez, who is good at holding the ball up.

The former is considerably better at that aspect of the game though and could give Nuno Santo a different option, especially against teams who like to sit deep.

Wolves have had numerous problems trying to break down defensive opposition this term but that issue could be put to bed if Rondon signed. He’d also be capable of making another of their forwards even better.

The 29-year-old is terrific at bringing others into play, and as such, it could open gaps up in behind for the likes of Diogo Jota to thrive.

A Wolves fan shares his most gutting moment of the last 10 years supporting the club in the video below…

We’ve already seen the phenomenal partnership Rondon established alongside a more technical striker in Ayoze Perez, and a similar effect can be had at Wolves if he played next to Jota.

The Portuguese star has already been incredible when paired with Jimenez, but he could now be on the verge of climbing to a new level.

Leicester fans are divided over a possible move for Andre Silva

[ad_pod ]

Leicester’s main priority in the summer transfer market is likely to be securing Youri Tielemans on a permanent deal. Brendan Rodgers has admitted the club will do everything they can to sign him.

However, fans of the Foxes have been debating another possible transfer, reacting to a tweet talking about Portuguese striker Andre Silva who has spent the season with Sevilla.

The reaction to a potential transfer was split positively and negatively as the fan base appeared divided over Silva. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from the Midlands side per El Desmarque.

One fan claimed that he was overhyped and overrated whilst another joked about the possibility of signing a player with a similar name to Adrien Silva.

A further supporter looked at things more analytically, hinting that Salomon Rondon would be a better option in the transfer market.

The Portugal international, who has been capped 33 times, has scored on nine occasions in 27 La Liga games this term for Sevilla.

He’s still contracted to AC Milan but has never really hit the ground running in Italy and as a result, could now be looking elsewhere for a permanent move.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Arsenal: Exequiel Palacios can be an unexpected Aaron Ramsey replacement

With the transfer window now open for business, Arsenal finds themselves actively looking for the player that has to live up to the task of replacing one of the club’s most important figures, Aaron Ramsey.

The Welshman’s departure to Juventus this summer will leave a massive void in the Gunners XI that needs serious addressing this summer, and it is a problem Unai Emery will need to sort out quickly if he is to keep the fans happy, and an intriguing name has recently popped up.

According to Closs Continental via Sport Witness, Arsenal are interested in River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who was highly tipped to move to Real Madrid but a move never materialised, and the news should excited Gooners everywhere.

The 20-year-old midfielder is one of the most highly rated players in South America after playing a pivotal role in the Argentine’s Copa Libertadores win over fierce rivals Boca Juniors, and his skill set is close enough to Ramsey’s to make Palacios a potentially brilliant replacement.

Valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt, the Argentina international is a versatile player, mainly operating in the centre of midfield but having the South American ruggedness to tackle and win the ball back whilst also have the flair of a playmaker to bomb forward and create chances and score goal.

Real Madrid wanted Palacios for a reason, and now with news that the 20-year-old is leaving his boyhood club, Arsenal need to act before it is too late to secure a player who has what it takes to replace an icon of the club.

Arsenal fans, would you take Palacios as a summer signing? Let us know!

"I’m glad", "A disgrace": Spurs fans react to Winks’ exclusion from England squad

[ad_pod ]

Harry Winks has been excluded from the England Nations League squad, somewhat controversially having proven over the years that he’s a talent that comes around very rarely in this country.

The 23-year-old Spurs midfielder has ultimately been let down by regular injuries which means England manager Gareth Southgate cannot be guaranteed of his fitness and therefore his availability for the end of season tournament.

Southgate has always had a firm policy on these matters, opting not to include Jack Wilshere in various squads as he couldn’t prove hit fitness and obtain regular football at the Emirates. There are some exceptions to this though, one of them being talisman Harry Kane, who’s vital to England for their trip to Portugal for the finals.

Winks’ exclusion has been rightly met by some furious fans demanding his place in the squad over the likes of Eric Dier and Fabian Delph. There’s no player who can receive possession and distribute from one third of the pitch to the other quite as well as the Tottenham midfielder can.

However, other Spurs fans have a different outlook on the decision, and actually see the benefits for their club in having one of their star players get a proper rest over the summer, after so many of them played a huge part in England’s World Cup run…

Spurs fans want one thing from Dier in Champions League final

[ad_pod ]

Eric Dier has been urged to repeat his training ground heroics in the Champions League final by excited Tottenham Hotspur fans after a video emerged of him scoring a brilliant free-kick.

The England international, who netted a stunning set-piece against Russia at Euro 2016, was videoed practicing free-kicks prior to Saturday’s mammoth clash with Liverpool.

Dier, who can play as both a midfielder and a defender, bent the ball into the top corner via the post, leaving his teammates awe-struck.

And supporters have urged him to repeat the trick when Mauricio Pochettino’s men bid to win their first ever Champions League trophy.

Spurs have qualified for the final after a miraculous run that has seen them draw with Barcelona in the group stages and beat Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax in the knockout rounds.

Dier has made a total of five appearances in Europe this season and has only completed the 90 minutes once, in the first fixture, a 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan.

He was on the bench for both legs of the semi-final but, still, supporters are hopeful that he could well see the net ripple in Madrid.

Transfer Focus: Sky Bet League One clubs queue up for Charlton Athletic’s Tariqe Fosu

[ad_pod ]

London News Online’s South London Press have published an exclusive that claims three Sky Bet League One teams are queueing up for the signature of Charlton Athletic’s Tariqe Fosu.

What’s the word, then?

The report states that Karl Robinson’s Oxford United, newbies Lincoln City and Rotherham United are all targeting the 23-year-old whose contract at the Valley is due to run out at the start of July.

Tariqe is one of many players set to exit the Addicks in the summer as they shuffle their pack ahead of their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship under Lee Bowyer.

The Cockney attacking midfielder joined from Reading during the Robinson reign and despite making 27 appearances in the league during 2018/2019, failed to feature in Charlton’s promotion run not playing a game after the end of March. Fosu is a former youth international with England.

Why Charlton should let Fosu quietly slip out the Valley back door

Bowyer and Charlton should let Fosu quietly slip out the back door of the Valley and allow a group of the clubs they left behind in League One to fight over his services.

The final couple of months of a historic campaign for the Addicks proved that the Englishman is quite simply surplus to requirements, not required to play a role in the most vital part of the term.

There’s the argument that stepping up a level means the Valley club need a bigger squad and could do with Fosu as a back-up option.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

However, the CAM also comfortable out on the left wing was barely able to contribute two goals and four assists in the best part of 30 appearances in League One last season.

Only being able to produce these weak figures in the third tier suggest that Fosu would be unable to have any kind of impact in the second tier, as was proven during his time at Reading.

The Addicks are best off forgetting about Fosu and not carrying any passengers with them in the next step up of their journey back to the big time. He’s been a good servant at stages but his time is now up.

Transfer Focus: Swapping Paul Pogba for Gareth Bale would be a serious Man United mistake

[ad_pod ]

Real Madrid want to use Gareth Bale as a makeweight in any potential deal for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba this summer, as reported by The Mirror.

What’s the story?

Having just completed the capture of former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, the Spanish giants are clearly on the hunt for expensive talent they feel can usher in a new successful era under manager Zinedine Zidane.

No surprise then that they’re looking at Pogba, one of the outstanding midfielders in European football right now.

The Mirror say Zidane is eager to make the French World Cup winner his next signing, with the surplus-to-requirements Gareth Bale set to be used to tempt United into biting on a potential deal.

The paper say that Bale, who earns £600,000-a-week, could drive down Man United’s £130m asking price for Pogba if an agreement can be reached on the Welshman’s mega-money contract.

Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…

Would this move suit United?

Despite Pogba’s problems at Old Trafford, he is a player who has enough talent for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to build a side around over the next few years.

They simply can’t be thinking of selling him this summer, even if Bale is included in any deal.

The Welsh icon is obviously an exceptional player and there would be little doubt about his ability to make an attacking impact in the United team if he did return to the Premier League, but Pogba is simply the kind of talent who can offer more in the long-term.

Where would United have been last season without his 16 goals and 11 assists from central midfield? Far worse off than they ended up.

Pogba rebirth

Having persevered through the mire of the Jose Mourinho years, the Frenchman now has the opportunity to finally be the leader that United need to get back to the top of the game.

If Solskjaer can surround him with ambitious young talent then progress can be made.

Ultimately if the player is not happy staying in Manchester that might dictate a club decision, but if all is well and he remains committed, biting on any Real Madrid deal for him could prove disastrous to the ambitions of the Old Trafford side next season and beyond.

Manchester United fans stunned as Fred linked with AS Roma

[ad_pod ]

Having snubbed Pep Guardiola and the chance to join Premier League champions Manchester City to move to Old Trafford, big things were expected of Brazilian midfielder Fred.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester United for a fee in the region of £52m last summer, but failed to really show the kind of form that convinced the Red Devils hierarchy to shell out a big sum of money for him.

And now according to Italian publication Il Romanista, Serie A giants AS Roma are considering ending his English football nightmare and reuniting him with his former boss at Shakhtar Donetsk, Paulo Fonseca, who is hoping for a loan move.

Despite his inconsistent form for the club though, many United fans took to Twitter to reveal their shock at Fred’s potential departure and labelled it “ridiculous” that the club would contemplate loaning him out after just one season.

Indeed, many seemed to think that the last campaign could be seen as a transition period for him and that United would see the best out of the Brazil international in the upcoming years.

Some pointed out that Fred’s best performances for the club came in the Champions League where the pace of the game is notoriously different to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, and urged United to keep the faith.
