Vrsaljko can add much needed natural depth to United’s full-back areas

As reported by The Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid full-back Sime Vrsaljko this summer.

What’s the story?

After a disappointing season which has resulted in zero silverware, Jose Mourinho will surely be a busy man in the upcoming transfer window as he looks to build a squad capable of competing for major honours next term.

One man that could arrive at Old Trafford is Atletico right-back Sime Vrsaljko.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who say the £30m-rated defender is on a shortlist of potential defenders.

The paper reckon that United are weighing up whether to make an offer or not for the Croatian international, considering his rather steep asking price.

Would he be a good signing?

United don’t have much depth in the full-back areas and Vrsaljko is a player with excellent experience at the top level who can play on both the right and left hand side of defence.

The 26-year-old is a reliable hand for Atletico, with just enough attacking prowess to provide a potential attacking outlet on the right flank.

As affordable options go he could be an excellent buy this summer, especially if the club also buy a quality, natural left-back and finally bring balance to a makeshift defence.

Emery swoop for experienced Lichtsteiner would be an Allegri-style move

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to make experienced Swiss international full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner his first signing at the Emirates Stadium, on a free transfer from Juventus, according to the Evening Standard.

What’s the story, then?

The Standard report says that Emery is looking for experienced leaders and a free transfer for the Juventus right-back is seen as one cut-price way to do exactly that.

It goes on to say that the deal is close as Lichtsteiner has been shown round the Gunners’ training ground at London Colney, although terms are yet to be agreed.

It also says that the Gunners are confident that the deal will be done in the coming days and that Lichtsteiner is seen as a good squad player, as opposed to first-team competition for Hector Bellerin.

Experience on the cheap is Allegri’s style

Arsenal may have missed out on Allegri from Juventus but Emery has shown with his interest in the Swiss international from the Italian giants that he is a similar character in terms of the transfer market.

The Gunners have lacked leaders for quite a few years now and one way to rectify that is to add experience and a winning mentality to the dressing room without breaking the bank.

However, if Bellerin does pick him an injury, Lichtsteiner does not have it in his legs to do a full season and that’s a worry.

Revealed: 81% of Spurs fans want £15m move for Grealish

Various reports have made Tottenham the clear favourites to land Jack Grealish this summer, and the overwhelming majority of fans would back a move… for the right price.

Since a report from the Telegraph claimed Grealish is a “prime target” for Mauricio Pochettino, the rumour mill has been in overdrive linking the feisty youngster with a move to North London.

Some bookmakers have the 22 year-old as low as 13/20 to join Spurs, although Leicester are also in the race.

Grealish suffered an injury-hit season last year, and not for the first time in his career, but was extremely impressive playing from central midfield in the second half of the season.

The young Englishman scored three goals and assisted six more, but it’s his driving runs from midfield that really make him special.

There have been conflicting reports over his price, but with Villa struggling with Financial Fair Play sanctions, Daniel Levy is expected to try and get the price down to around £15m.

If Spurs can get such a talented, hungry young star for £15m it would be an absolute bargain, and a whopping 81 per cent of fans agree with that.

Everton fans urge club to sign Xherdan Shaqiri after brilliant Switzerland display

Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri impressed and scored a brilliant goal in Switzerland’s crucial 2-1 World Cup win against Serbia on Friday night, and Everton fans have urged their club to sign the 26-year-old ace.

The Potters winger looks set to leave the Britannia Stadium this summer following his side’s relegation to the Championship last term, and according to The Mirror he has a £12m release clause in his contract after they suffered the drop.

The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan man started on the right-hand side for his country in Kaliningrad, and as well as proving to be influential in the final third and being incredibly unlucky not to score with a curling effort that hit the woodwork, he then netted the winning goal for his nation as he ran from the halfway line and produced a composed finish late on.

Everton supporters, who have urged their club to sign another potential Gylfi Sigurdsson replacement in £22.5m World Cup attacking midfielder, were quick to have their say on Shaqiri’s latest display via social media, and while one said “the guy is exactly what the club desperately needs”, another described him as “better than Gylfi”.

Manchester City fans hit out at Otamendi over controversial moment at World Cup

When Pep Guardiola became Manchester City manager in the summer of 2016, he gave Nicolas Otamendi a new lease of life.

The defender improved significantly and seemed to wash away his erratic moments.

However, on Thursday night while representing Argentina at the World Cup, the 30-year-old let the frustration of their Group D match against Croatia get to him.

The centre-back managed to escape a red card, despite kicking the ball into Ivan Rakitic’s face while the Croatian was on the floor as a result of a tackle.

Jorge Sampaoli’s side were poor overall as they succumbed to a 3-0 loss, which has poured significant doubt over the nation’s ability to progress from the group stage.

Even though the team possess the talent of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, they are yet to win a game having drawn 1-1 with Iceland and losing to Croatia.

Plenty of Man City fans were left stunned by Otamendi’s actions on the field, and they proceeded to verbally bash him on social media.

Fantasy Football Weekly: Man United star gets the chop

Another week has passed and another set of Fantasy Football questions arise as we head into the fourth game of the Premier League.

Chelsea grabbed their first three points of the season via a thrilling win over West Bromwich Albion, with new signing Pedro Rodriguez grabbing the headlines (and the points) with a goal and an assist in the first 30 minutes.

Diego Costa also had the same output, while Eden Hazard failed to shine with only an assist to show for his efforts.

Manchester United continue their defensive stability with their third successive clean sheet, but on the other end the likes of Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney both struggled against a defiant Newcastle United side.

And Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez just can’t stop scoring, notching his fourth goal of the season to lead the goalscoring charts and earning his third double-digit points tally in the Fantasy Football world.

However, it is Bournemouth’s Calum Wilson who stole the show, scoring his side’s first ever Premier League goal before completing the first hat-trick of the season against West Ham United. Who saw that coming?

Once again we will take a look at players you should consider BUYing, SELLing, or HOLDing on to going into the next gameweek!

BUY: Philippe Coutinho

Looking at the immediate short-term fixtures, it would be a smart idea to consider bringing Liverpool star midfielder Philippe Coutinho (8.1) into your squad.

Those that missed the Reds’ game against Arsenal will realize that Coutinho is playing in a dangerous position right behind Christian Benteke, and if it wasn’t for Petr Cech and a matter of inches, the Brazilian would have netted at least a brace against the Gunners.

Now with three rather favourable oppositions [West Ham (H), Norwich (H), and Aston Villa (H)] in their next four games, Coutinho has the chance to add to his one goal this season. The tricky tie against Man United (A) after the international break may be a tricky fixture, but how many times have seen him score a worldie against a top side?

SELL: Memphis Depay

Many drafted Memphis Depay (8.5) into their squads ahead of the Red Devils’ game against Newcastle United at Old Trafford last weekend following his brace against Club Brugge, but the Netherlands star once again failed to make his mark in the English top flight.

And although we have nothing against his potential ability, Man United’s upcoming harsh fixtures and the option of better alternatives makes Depay an unreasonable pick heading into gameweek four.

You may, however, consider holding the former PSV star for another game to save a free transfer before the international break, but if you are looking to make a move Depay is a good choice to be sacrificed for the likes of Pedro (9.5), Nacer Chadli (7.0), Riyad Mahrez (6.0), or the aforementioned Philippe Coutinho (8.1).

HOLD: Eden Hazard

Yes we’ve repeated our HOLD selection from the previous week due to the fact that many Fantasy managers are already shipping Eden Hazard (10.4) out of their squads for new boy Pedro (9.5), resulting in the Belgium international already seeing a drop in price from 10.5.

However, Chelsea will host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge this weekend and last season’s PFA Player of the Year has every chance to grab his first goal of the season to add to his assist last weekend.

Currently on spot kick duties, the Blues will look to attack the Eagles on Saturday and Hazard will likely be amongst the goals. Don’t hurry him out of your team just yet especially with the international break coming up where you can further evaluate your squad (also a good time to wildcard for those who haven’t).

BUY: Mame Biram Diouf or Xherdan Shaqiri

While many will think that Bournemouth hattrick hero Calum Wilson is a must buy heading into gameweek four, we believe that Stoke City’s know-how and experience in the Premier League gives one of either Mame Biram Diouf (6.5) or Xherdan Shaqiri (7.0) an edge to the Englishman.

The Potters have an amazing run of fixtures until gameweek 10 which sees games against West Brom (H), Leicester (H), Bournemouth (H), Aston Villa (A), Swansea (A), and Watford (H), with a gameweek five trip to play Arsenal their only real cause of concern.

And Diouf or Shaqiri, whichever position is of need in your respective squads, should be among the points in Mark Hughes new Barcelona-esque squad. The two are also the most nailed-on picks in the line-up in their array of attacking players.

SELL: Yohan Cabaye

At just 6.6, you may be wondering why it is being advised that you sell Yohan Cabaye ahead of gameweek 4. The France midfielder is a brilliant player for the Eagles, but he is playing in a deeper role and Palace’s fixtures are about to get extremely tough in the coming weeks.

Alan Pardew’s men face a daunting run of Chelsea (A), Man City (H), and Tottenham (A) in their next three games, before their fixtures ease up to merit selection.

Yet, the issue is that there are far better (and cheaper) options in the Crystal Palace roster. Let’s start with Jason Puncheon (6.0), who already has two assists to his name and is on free-kick and corner duties. Then there is new boy Bakary Sako (5.5), who was Palace’s main attacking threat against Aston Villa last weekend and scored on his debut. And finally there is Yannick Bolasie (6.3), although we will have to see whether he remains at Selhurst Park after September 1st amid Tottenham’s interest.

HOLD: Christian Benteke

Last week, we did recommend that you need to make space to buy Manchester City star Sergio Aguero (13.2) ahead of City’s decent run of fixtures (aligned of course with their amazing form so far this season). And many believe Christian Benteke (8.5) should be sacrificed to make way for the Argentine after 36,290 managers sold the Belgian.

However, the Reds have just come off an amazing display at the Emirates and were unlucky to be held at 0-0 by a brilliant Petr Cech in goal. Benteke should have scored his chance, but take nothing away from the former Chelsea shot-stopper.

Yet, with West Ham travelling to Anfield this weekend before also hosting Norwich and Aston Villa after their tricky trip to Old Trafford, Benteke has a good opportunity to add to his one goal so far this season.

So we advise you to hold on to the ex-Villa man the next couple of gameweeks, with maybe Wayne Rooney (if you have him) sacrificed for Aguero.

Arsenal and Everton starting lineups are in

What a week it’s been for Arsenal. If any Premier League team is going into their match this weekend on a high it’s The Gunners. Victory over Bayern Munich was much more than three points, it was proof that Arsenal can hack it with the big boys and also a lifeline for their Champions League hopes that were beginning to look like they were over.

Everton, on the other hand, are in a much lower, darker place. Following the emotion of last week’s tributes to the late, great Howard Kendall, defeat to Manchester United seemed almost secondary. Yet it was still a limp 3-0 defeat at home at a time when you thought the players would be able to put up a fight in the memory of a real club legend.

Arsenal v Everton – LIVE

Everton fans will be wishing they had Neville Southall, Kevin Ratcliffe, Andy Gray and Gary Lineker lining up for them today, but they’ll have to do with only one change from the side that lost to United as Gerard Deulofeu comes in for Steven Naismith as Roberto Martinez keeps the faith in his men.

Arsenal, on the other hand, name a very similar side to that which beat Bayern in midweek. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes in for the injured Aaron Ramsey and Gabriel takes the place of Per Mertesacker. But the big news is that Olivier Giroud starts ahead of Theo Walcott in Arsene Wenger’s side today.

West Ham handed promising transfer boost, star admits he wants move

Manuel Lanzini has admitted that he wants to sign for West Ham on a permanent basis, according to MailOnline.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan in east London from United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira, and the Hammers have first option to buy him outright next summer.

And after a hugely impressive string of performances in the Premier League, it has been widely reported that the Hammers intend to take up that option as soon as possible to ensure the Argentine youngster remains with them.

WANT MORE? >> West Ham transfer news | Latest transfer news

And Lanzini admits he would love to stay at the club longer, and cites the Hammers’ move to the Olympic Stadium as a key factor.

He said: “I hope to be sitting here next season in this dressing room [at the Olympic Stadium].

“When you’re at a club and feeling like you have an important role, you want to stay. But I am focused on this season. I have six or seven months of my loan to run so we’ll see what happens.

“This [the stadium move] is going to give West Ham a boost. As a stadium, it’s fantastic.”

And Lanzini also revealed that he turned down a number of offers from other clubs in Europe in the summer, and chose West Ham because it was the only place that felt right for him.

“There were several offers to come to Europe,” the youngster admitted.

“All were sort of loan deals and West Ham was the best for me. It is a well-organised club where I can develop as a footballer and a human being.

“The coaching staff have faith in me and give me confidence. The Premier League is fast and dynamic, it suits my game.

“I’m very comfortable here.”

Lanzini has scored five goals in 13 first team appearances for the Hammers this season.

Football Manager 16 team guide: West Ham

What you start with…

A budget of nothing is largely down to the Hammers splashing the cash over the summer, but your squad is strong enough as it is. You can’t change the budget, whatever you promise to achieve, so it’s probably safest to stick with what you have and wait for the second summer to invest.

What’s expected…

Premier League: A top half finish will have the board happy, but push for any more than that and you could leave your superiors disappointed.

FA Cup: A run to the quarters and the fans shan’t be too gutted, but, as ever, the Hammers faithful would love to see their side make it to Wembley and you’ll be in credit if you do.

Capital One Cup: Even if you fall at the first hurdle of the Capital One Cup, it won’t let anyone down too significantly.

Three to buy…

Sam Byram: Carl Jenkinson can be a bit of a marmite player, so Sam Byram is a well justified upgrade on the Arsenal loanee. Byram can operate anywhere down the right hand side of the pitch and should develop to be ready for an England debut within your first few seasons.

Zach Clough: This Bolton youngster is ideal as a false nine, but can do a very good job for your side in a number of positions. As a forward player with excellent finishing and passing, he works well as a link up man and would be ideal for the runners of Valencia and Moses to go beyond him.

Rodrigo Palacio: With the form of Mauro Icardi, Palacio is not a first choice for Inter and he might be interested by some first-team football. Palacio can cover on the wings, but he would be an ideal man to play alongside, or rotate with, Diafra Sakho.

Three to sell…

Andy Carroll: This carthorse looks to have finally played his last minutes for the Hammers if I got my way on FM. The target man is as injury prone as it can be and his technical ability doesn’t match up to that of the rest of the Hammers’ attacking players.

James Collins: Collins, with the signing of Ogbonna, is comfortably down the pecking order and it would make a lot more sense to upgrade him for a younger model. Ogbonna, Tomkins and Reid are all comfortably better options than the 32 year-old and getting his wages off the bill will help the club move forwards.

Joey O’Brien: With Carl Jenkinson being your first choice right-back and James Tomkins more than capable of covering there if need be, O’Brien should be one of the first players you look to offload. He’ll free up some of your wage bill and can even fetch you around £1million if you’re lucky.

Youngsters..

Reece Oxford: After his star debut this season, Oxford shot to prominence and his FM ratings are equally as impressive. The teenager can become a versatile member of your squad and you’ll have to fend off the interest of some of the Premiership’s big boys.

Diego Poyet: The son of Gus is a highly regarded starlet at West Ham and he should be paid close attention to. The youngster can be a quality midfield player and develops a high quality passing range that will compete at the highest level.

Manuel Lanzini: He is only on the loan at the start of your save, but Lanzini must be a player that you target on a permanent deal. The creative midfield player can wreak havoc in between the lines against any side and teams up ideally with Payet.
